Since You’ve Been Gone

I can breathe for the first time!!  (Who doesn’t love a good Kelly Clarkson jam?! Like be honest!!)

You know that blog post that I promised back in November? Yeah, about that…. ummm…. so, I’m a little behind on the due date. Sorry about that. There have a been a few things that have been going on in my life and even now I’ve been trying to get ahead. Truthfully, I’m still working on my NYC Marathon review, don’t worry I have it written in a little journal so all my thoughts are not lost.

Ok, so here are some of the highlights:

– After the NYC marathon, I really enjoyed running again; like amazingly loved it again. I was running sub-10:00s again and I hit a personal record in a 5K that I ran on Thanksgiving today (a sub 30 min. 5K!). I was on freaking cloud nine.

I had my running mojo again and I was in the groove; 2015 was gonna be a year of race goals!! On January 31st, I went for an easy 3 miles run around my town and the next day my ankle was swollen. I thought it was just something small at first but I wasn’t able to put weight on it. I talked to my doctor and she agreed that I should wait 6-8 weeks before heading out the door again. Fortunately for me, eight weeks is this Saturday so I’ll be heading for my first run in 2 months with a goal of doing a mile with no pain. Sigh.

– I’ve applied for a spot in this years Chicago Marathon. Now, after reading the above running review you might be raising an eyebrow, but I’m putting it out there. If I get in, I get in; if I’m out, I’m out. All I know is that I want to do better in Chicago because that race was AMAZING and I hated my time, I want to PR there so bad by at least an hour. I do believe it’s possible and I think I’ve got a shot, I just need to get my body in working order. Getting old is hard.

– We have a little garden! It isn’t much but we finally took care of the little front area of our house and I’m already loving it. One plant is already dead, but thats ok. We have so many that it gives us a chance to make some more room between the buds.

– And lastly, I’m working on taking some college courses on project management. I’ve been thinking about different ways on how to impact my career and to set myself up on the right path. I’ve noticed that I like I doing more project management stuff at my job so I’ve been doing some research on courses that I can take. It might be a course here and there but at least it’s a start. I took an intro course about year ago that really got my interest so I think I’m heading in the right direction

Ok, so thats about all I got. Nice to see you again! I’ll try not to be stranger again. Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Lace Up the Sneaks!

Like any good bride trying to get ready for her wedding day I’m trying to lose weight and if you didn’t know one of those ways is by running. Yes, I’m a runner. Shocking I know but thanks to participating in Team In Training (aka TNT) I’m now addicted to the sport and always looking for the next high. However, this weekend was not that.

I was training for the See Jane Run Half Marathon for a while but then hit a bit of a rut the last few weeks with the trip to Hawaii (I know, I know, I shouldn’t be complaining) and getting back into a routine at work, and trying to plan a wedding. So there’s been a limit with me getting a chance to lace up the sneaks. Then this week I came down with a bug, I don’t know what but I could barely handle getting through the day. I ended up going to bed on Friday night at 9pm. On Saturday, I felt a little bit better, I knew that I could handle a run but I was debating on whether to do the half or go with the 5K. I started looking at the route and was thinking well maybe… I turned to Jonathan and told him that I might be up for it and he said “you don’t look so good”. And let’s just say that I’m glad he was right.

I ended up doing the 5k with my girlies, Jen and Valerie. Jen was sick, Val was getting over being sick as well and we decided not to push ourselves. We decided to take a picture afterwards and here’s a shot of how awful I looked. (I’m on the left.)

See Jane Run Finishers

How desperate are we for sleep?

For a bunch of ladies who were sick and just ran after doing nothing I think we look hot. And thank heavens for See Jane Run for providing a lot of champagne because that’s what this sick girl needed. We promise to dominate another race, just right now getting through the day and not dying was an accomplishment.
